Labyrinths
Mazes are designed
to get you lost,
labyrinths are designed
to get you found.
I am interested in the use of Labyrinth Walking as an effective tool for creating a sense of place, a sense of self and a sense of belonging. It provides us with an opportunity to slow down and enjoy and appreciate the natural world around us. Current research is showing clear evidence of benefits of labyrinth walking to the health and well being of people of all ages as it promotes the calming of the mind, body and spirit and it inspires unity of purpose.
Over recent years I have created numerous labyrinths at Gala Days, festivals, in woodlands, in private gardens and in Primary Schools. These have mainly been ephemeral earthworks using leaves, stones, flowers, berries and other found natural materials. Some are more permanent using soft landscaping with rocks and plants requiring ongoing maintenance by the schools and owners. I am interested in creating permanent labyrinths in public places as these magical paths are fun to walk with family and friends or to just to have some peaceful time out on your own.
